Mortgage Light provides a lifeline for first-time buyer family

When first-time buyers Ryan and Rebecca had their offer accepted on a three-bedroom house in Bedfordshire, they never expected that a bad experience with their first mortgage broker would put their entire purchase in jeopardy. Luckily, when things went wrong, a friend put them in touch with the team at Mortgage Light who stepped in to help.

Ryan explains: “Being first-time buyers, we were new to the home buying process but trusted in our first mortgage broker to guide us through things. About eight weeks in we realised we’d been given some inaccurate advice from the broker which completely threatened the sale.”

He continues: “In a panicked search for a new mortgage broker, I called Mortgage Light at around 10pm, blindly hoping someone might be able to help me. Thankfully, Rob, one of the mortgage consultants, picked up the phone and, despite the time, reassured me he’d do everything he could to rectify the situation. By around midday the next day, he’d managed to secure us a Help to Buy mortgage in principle which he followed up immediately by submitting a formal application. Not just that, he’d put the seller’s minds at ease with a quick phone call, explaining the situation. I can’t even describe the relief and gratitude we felt at that point.”

Ryan and Rebecca have subsequently moved into their new three-bedroom home with their children.

Ryan explains: “We can’t praise Rob more highly – as well as liaising with and reassuring our seller, he also put in calls to Help to Buy to ensure everything was moving as it should be. We never wanted for updates – he was on the phone regularly with new information and progress reports, which as first-time buyers was really valuable, as buying a home was a completely unknown process for us. Rob is truly fantastic at his job – he’d often push things through to us well after office hours, just to ensure we had peace of mind and could relax for the rest of the evening. He also advised us about life and critical illness cover, which we also arranged with them – there was a real feeling of trust and we knew they had our best interests at heart. I would have happily paid double for Mortgage Light’s service.”

He continues: “I had been renting for almost 18 years, so buying this home means everything to me and my family – it’s given us security, somewhere we can raise our children and a place to put down roots. I would recommend Mortgage Light to anyone looking to buy and secure a mortgage – I wish we’d used their services from the start of our homebuying journey. Thanks to Rob, we are now happily settled in our forever home.”
